Having a financial first aid kit helps to ensure that the tangible pieces of your financial life are safe and easily accessible at any moment. Today, we share a comprehensive list of items to keep your financial first aid kit well-stocked for any emergency.

Portfolio Update

As a consequence of recent economic and policy trends, we are returning to a more conservative stance with respect to our bond allocations. Recent guidance has made it clear that the Federal Reserve is committed to slowly, but consistently, stepping up the pace of interest rate increases going forward. This, combined with a modest but notable uptick in inflation, has led us to conclude that the economic environment will be biased toward steadily rising interest rates for the first time since the Great Recession. We will, of course, continue to monitor and make further adjustments as necessary in the coming months and years.

Important Information About Your 1099

As we continue to provide updates on the status of your Schwab 1099 form for your 2016 tax return, we’d like to inform you that your 2016 1099 form is now available. Schwab has sent a paper copy to you in the mail and has posted an electronic copy to your Schwab Alliance account. If you are not familiar with the Schwab Alliance website, you can find simple instructions for accessing the document on our website. For your awareness, it is possible that Schwab will also release a Corrected 1099 form in the coming weeks. Last year, we planned for the event of receiving corrected forms and in the end there were no changes. For this reason, we suggest that you proceed with preparing your taxes in a timely fashion, but wait to file your 2016 return until you hear from us about whether or not you will be receiving corrected 1099s. We will update you as we know more from Schwab.
