In the Spirit of Financial Literacy Month

Earlier this week, three members of the Yeske Buie team hosted a live webinar on the topic of financial literacy – a recording of which is now available on our website. During the webinar, we shared our approach to financial literacy, an in-depth explanation of our financial literacy program, and practices that support financial success. As we explored this topic, we briefly touched on a number of concepts that we could easily spend an entire webinar unpacking. Today in this space – and in the spirit of promoting financial literacy! – we’d like to share more about some of these concepts.

  • A Practical Approach to Cashflow Complexities: Cash flow policies remove budgetary uncertainties and clarify the financial ripple effects of given alternatives while maintaining alignment with Client values.
  • A Jewel of Financial Tools: For those looking for trusted financial information, the CFPB offers a variety of reliable tools related to topics like getting an auto loan, owning a home, and information for students.
  • Cash Flow Trackers – How to Make Them Work for You: We take a look at one of the more popular cash flow tracking apps, Mint, and give our take on the service and on using cash flow trackers.

Change to the Schwab Money Market Fund

We would like to acknowledge and make you aware of communication that you may receive from Schwab regarding a change to the Money Market Fund (SWMXX) that is held in many of our Client accounts. Schwab has decided to replace this Money Market Fund (effective May 25, 2018) and will automatically sweep cash into a new Money Market Fund within all applicable accounts. If you receive communication on this matter, please know that there is no action required on your part. This note is to let you know what is happening so you’re aware of the context if/when you receive communication from Schwab about this change.

Send Us Your Tax Return

Just like that, another Tax Day has come and gone. For those who did not file for an extension, we’d like to request (as we do every year) that you send us a copy of your return. Exactly how we use the information varies from Client to Client but can range from analyzing Roth conversions, to updating retirement capital projections, calculating tax projections, and tracking tax data that can impact investment decisions. It is our preference to receive the entire document, however, having a copy of the 1040 and all Schedules is usually sufficient. To securely send us a return or any other information, please use one of the methods described here.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson
