Qualified Charitable Distributions – A Powerful Way to Give

Each year, many of our Clients share their charitable intentions with us and we work to ensure they’re able to express those intentions in such a way that they and the charity receive the maximum benefit. Examples of strategies we regularly employ include using Donor Advised Funds, donating appreciated shares of stock, and listing charities as beneficiaries in a Client’s estate plan. Today, we’ll explore yet another strategy – Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD). Read on to learn more about what a QCD is, how to know if you’re eligible, and few ways this strategy could have a significant positive impact on your financial plan.

Estate Planning for Digital Assets

It is no secret that we are rapidly becoming an ever more paperless society. With mobile technology a societal norm, we are replacing all our physical information and documents with digital versions. Instead of letters, we have emails. Instead of photo albums, we have Facebook. However, whether your “stuff” is in your desk or in the cloud it is just as important to make sure that there are appropriate instructions for what to do with everything once you are gone. With this in mind, we offer some helpful questions for you to consider in order to make sure that your digital assets are as well planned for as your physical assets.

TheLiveBigWay® Digest – What is Wealth?

What is Wealth: The Size of Your Life or the Size of Your Wallet?

What is wealth? At Yeske Buie, we make our stance on this question very clear. For us, it’s about the size of your life, not the size of your wallet®. The difficulty of this, for some, is that while the size of your “wallet” is quantifiable, the size of your life is more ambiguous. One data-driven measure of the quality of life that is being referenced more often is the Social Progress Index. Today, we explore how this index is trying to redefine traditional measures for quality of life.

In addition to discussing and reviewing the options, there are other questions to consider and review prior to that time period. One review you may not instinctively think about is checking to see if your past Social Security earnings have been reported correctly. Read on to learn how you can (simply) check your earnings record and why it matters…

Finding Financial Independence

With the July 4th weekend upon us, it’s hard not to reflect on the qualities that have made the US unique (when not thinking about baseball, barbecues, and fireworks, that is). Most notably, of course, is our independence. When it comes to financial independence, however, it may not be as easy to reflect on the meaning or embodiment of the term. This ambiguity may be frustrating, but it also allows for individuals to define the term for themselves. Today, we share tools and resources to help you explore and reflect on your definition of financial independence.

Got a College Student? File FAFSA!

With high school graduations upon us, the realities of college expenses like room and board, tuition, and supplies may be sinking in. All of these costs make up a student’s total cost of attendance and can be paid for with federal financial aid which is awarded based on the completed FAFSA for each student. While some of the state deadlines for the 2017-2018 school year have passed, it’s not too late for those who may have originally thought it wouldn’t make a difference to file the FAFSA for federal aid. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson
