Social Wellness Support

The word “wellness” is often prefaced with an adjective: for example, physical wellness, financial wellness, or social wellness. If you are unfamiliar with the term, social wellness involves having meaningful relationships and creating a support system that includes family members and friends. This kind of care may include fostering your own social wellness or helping a loved one you support in your social network. In recognition of National Social Wellness Month, we guide you to resources that may help you feel more comfortable in a caregiving role.

Have You Reviewed Your Earnings Record?

Social Security is a topic that starts to come into conversation as retirement approaches – When can I start to receive benefits? How much will my benefit be? What about my spouse’s benefit? In addition to discussing and reviewing the options, there are other questions to consider and review prior to that time period. One review you may not instinctively think about is checking to see if your past Social Security earnings have been reported correctly. Read on to learn how you can (simply) check your earnings record and why it matters…

Finding Financial Independence

With the July 4th weekend upon us, it’s hard not to reflect on the qualities that have made the US unique (when not thinking about baseball, barbecues, and fireworks, that is). Most notably, of course, is our independence. When it comes to financial independence, however, it may not be as easy to reflect on the meaning or embodiment of the term. This ambiguity may be frustrating, but it also allows for individuals to define the term for themselves. Today, we share tools and resources to help you explore and reflect on your definition of financial independence.

Bigger Bang for Your Buck

Despite the title, we’re not writing to offer our suggestions on where you may find the best fireworks show this upcoming holiday weekend! Rather, we’re writing to bring your attention to a recent negotiation between Yeske Buie and Schwab that will save you money. Effective this past May, Schwab agreed to lower the trading fees in all of our Clients’ accounts to a flat rate of $20 – previously, the fee was between $25 – $50 based on the amount of the trade. While the previous fees were competitive, it is our goal to minimize all expenses for our Clients to allow your portfolios the best opportunity to grow. This change aligns with this goal and we will continue to be on the lookout for similar opportunities in the future.

Got a College Student? File FAFSA!

With high school graduations upon us, the realities of college expenses like room and board, tuition, and supplies may be sinking in. All of these costs make up a student’s total cost of attendance and can be paid for with federal financial aid which is awarded based on the completed FAFSA for each student. While some of the state deadlines for the 2017-2018 school year have passed, it’s not too late for those who may have originally thought it wouldn’t make a difference to file the FAFSA for federal aid. Education guru Tony Sutphin discussed why all parents with college students should complete the FAFSA even if they don’t think they will qualify for aid. Learn more about Tony’s reasons for why.

TheLiveBigWay® Digest – The Merry Month of May

National 529 College Savings Plan Day

Planning for higher education costs is frequently a topic we discuss with our Clients. It can be tricky to decide when and how to start saving because of the unknown factors that make estimating college costs challenging. We have used this space before to discuss the pros and cons of using a 529 plan as part of one’s approach to saving for college. Today, in honor of National 529 College Savings Plan Day on the 29th of May, we thought it would be worthwhile to revisit the topic to share more on two types of plans and our thoughts on the best available plans.

Whether someone is celebrating the transition out of high school or college, graduation is a big milestone and a celebration of a student’s future. Today, we highlight three graduation pieces that exemplify the graduation spirit of deserved celebration and concomitant realism.

Referrals are the Greatest Compliment

Our message is that we are financial planning evangelists and would like to see everyone who seeks advice find a competent, ethical financial planner. Thus, we’re happy to talk to ANYONE who is referred to us and if, for whatever reason, we find that we’re not a good fit, we will work to match them up with an experienced financial planner who is.

If you know someone who may be interested in talking with us, please ask them to contact Lauren@YeBu.com or send Lauren the individual’s name and contact information so we may connect with them to set-up an initial meeting. We thank you for the continued trust you show in us by referring your friends, family, and colleagues so that we can help them to harness their financial resources to pursue exquisite, fulfilling lives.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson
