Saving for Retirement – It’s Never Too Early (or Too Late!)

At the top of nearly every list of financial New Year’s resolutions is the goal to “save more money”. For some, this means increasing general savings amounts. For others, this means putting away more money for retirement, specifically. When it comes to planning for retirement, time is one of the most important ingredients in a Client’s financial plan. The power of compound interest is the reason this is true – each additional compounding period available to a Client’s savings increases the growth prospects of those funds exponentially. Read more to find out how Yeske Buie helps its Clients use their time before retirement to take advantage of this principle.

Top Economy and Investing Post: The Coming Bear Market

“The Coming Bear Market” is the title of an article posted in October 2017 by economist Robert Shiller in which he discusses current economic and market conditions in the U.S. and compares them to prior times when markets declined. Shiller is notable for having published a book titled “Irrational Exuberance” in which he “predicted” the Great Recession, and he seems to have been predicting another one ever since. One thing that’s important to remember is that someone is always predicting bad things for the economy, but the reality of the markets is much messier. Read on for our thoughts on “the coming bear market”.

Estate Planning for Animal Lovers

When thinking about estate planning, many topics come to mind – like, what property, houses, and cars you own, who will handle the distribution of your assets, and how you will care for your children, grandchildren, and other loved ones. Often overlooked, however, is the care for our beloved, furry companions: our pets. Although you can’t leave money directly to your pets, you can make plans to ensure your pets are cared for and that the necessary resources are available to the caretaker.

Staff Spotlight: Yusuf Abugideiri

Today in this space, we’d like to shine a spotlight on our longest-standing team member, Yusuf Abugideiri, who is in the midst of some exceptional personal and professional life events that we are excited to share with you. First and foremost, Yusuf and his wife, Maegan, are counting down the days until the arrival of their first born child! Of course, this means that Yusuf will be spending some time out of the office as he adjusts to his new role as a parent. In the meantime, Ryan Klemm and the rest of our Financial Planning team are prepared to dive in and support our Clients’ needs during Yusuf’s time away. Stay tuned for an announcement (and pictures!) after Yusuf and Maegan meet their son.

In other (less life altering, but still good) news, Yusuf will be a member of the 2018 class of Schwab’s Executive Leadership Program. This program serves as a sort of “MBA” for Financial Planners with the aim of preparing the next generation of leaders of the profession. The coursework will touch on various topics, including Positive Leadership, Managing Innovation, Talent Management, and Entrepreneurship that Yusuf will be able to apply in his management role at Yeske Buie.

Dimensional Stories: Things Really Add Up Over Time

Creative is not often a word that comes to mind when thinking about wealth management. But at Yeske Buie, our firm and our Client relationships are built around our talent for thinking creatively in service of our Clients. Creative thinking is also a strength of our strategic partner, Dimensional Fund Advisors. Over our decades-long relationship, Dimensional has shown us their dedication to adding value at every step of the investment process, often fighting hard for “small” differences. We find this mindset to be particularly congruent with our approach to serving Clients as we too believe that, in the long run, small differences can have a big impact. With this in mind, we share a few examples of value-add initiatives and a brief video from Dimensional that highlights how this mindset is aligned across the two firms.

When meeting with Clients, we sometimes explore their personal history by asking questions about childhood money memories, their hopes for their financial legacy, and more. What we learn is always focused on the important people in their lives and almost invariably, it is about far more than money. Today, we share the family trees from a variety of our team members along with a blank template that you can complete for yourself. Employee Stock Options: Simplified

Chances are you have had stock options at one point or another or know someone who has. The term ‘stock options’ refers to company stock incentives offered to company employees. The stock incentives may come in many different shapes and sizes but most basically, stock options grant the employee the right to purchase a certain number of company stock shares at a certain price on a certain date. If the company’s stock price increases, the employee’s options are worth more and, thus, the employee is incentivized to help the company continue to grow. Here we’ll explore two of the most common forms of stock options and their main differences. Read on to learn more about the basics of Incentive Stock Options (ISOs) and Non-Qualified Stock Options (NQSOs).

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson
